Notes: Former teacher Peter
Payne has sent us a fascinating video, all the way from Beijing where he now
lives, It shows a school Journey trip, up in to the Alps. "He says In the 1970’s
and 80’s outdoor pursuits were well promoted in inner London schools through the
ILEA centre in North Wales. Alpine trips were run by the London Schools
Mountaineering Association but the strong interest and enthusiasm from Elliott
staff and students coupled with the necessary expertise and qualifications
amongst the staff at that time lead to us mounting expeditions of our own. Over
170 students were involved in UK climbing trips over the years and about 30
students took up the challenge of the Alps on a total of four three week
expeditions, each to a different, suitably chosen, area of the Swiss, French and
Italian Alps. |

This Video is for all those who cannot get to see the school as it is today. I hope it brings back memories for you

Notes: I am a former Pupil and was lucky enough to be allowed to look around the school, some forty years after I had left it. I was even allowed to photograph some areas. I was astonished how little it had changed, but also saddened by how it had deteriorated. I realised that others might have the same nostalgia as me and started this website. As its popularity grew I noticed that many ex pupils now lived abroad and decided to make a video of those pictures available to all. If you want to see them as 'stills'
they are also available in the website's picture gallery. |
